This video was about how fossil fuel and carbon emissions were dealt with because most everday products such as cars and the mobile phones we use actually consumes fossil fuels. This includes both to run the product and for it to be manufactured too. As most know that carbon emissions is the real issue to global warming, so people from around the world gathered together to the Copenhagen meeting for a solution, in which the one they chose was the Cap and Trade.
Basically Cap and Trade is a process made by the government in which there will be a yearly cap on carbon emissions and permits to pollute are sold to companies. The idea is as each year pass the permits are lessened and so the pollution decreases. But the issue to this is that the market then only cared about money making to the point that they even sold and traded the permits for profit. Worse was carbon offsetting in which companies even lied to have decreased their carbon emissions in order to receive free money. Why is the world like that with many selfish people?
"Solid caps, strong laws, citizen actions, carbon fee's"
I think this is a decent solution, if only companies could look beyond money. Even for designers, we should be aware of this problem and seriously look into choosing the right materials for designing careefully.
